Towering 46 stories over Chicago’s iconic Magnificent Mile, the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago enters its fourth decade with a stunning makeover cementing its status as one of the top luxury hotels in Chicago.
A multi-million dollar renovation by international architecture and design firm Rottet Studio recreated the hotel’s public spaces, suites, apartments, and restaurant. The result was a more modern aesthetic punctuated by a lighter color palette, an open floor plan, and a new vibrancy within the classic five-star hotel.
The Reconceptualized Lobby at One of the Top Luxury Hotels in Chicago
After stepping off the elevator, guests enter the newly remodeled reception and lobby. This expansive area is bright with white marble, gold accents, and natural elements, all creating an elegant, upscale first impression. The space features a modern art deco look that generates a calm, relaxed vibe. The lobby is adorned with a collection of contemporary photography curated by Chicago-based art consultant Shashi Caudill.
Today the hotel lobby is like the heart of the home. It’s a place for community and social connection, and the Four Seasons lobby was designed to encourage both. The entrance includes a variety of seating vignettes done in neutrals and rich textures. These luxury nooks provide an optimal ambiance for relaxing with your morning coffee or diving into work. Later in the day, the mid-century modern bar is the perfect spot to unwind with a glass of bubbles or a craft cocktail.

The Redesigned Restaurant at One of the Top Luxury Hotels in Chicago
Off the lobby is Adorn, the new flagship restaurant. When I visited the hotel in 2018, I remember its Allium restaurant being dark, wood-paneled, and with the feel of an old London gentleman’s club. What a difference four years makes! Today the focal point of the space is a large bar with a glimmering modern chandelier that looks like the icicles that form on Chicago buildings in winter. This part of the restaurant may still be dark, but the mood is sultry, sexy, and inviting.
The main restaurant is now filled with light-colored furnishings. The huge windows let in the warm light, and a stunning view of Lake Michigan pours in.

Adore Adorn
Adorn has risen to the top of the competitive Chicago fine dining scene in its first year. According to a local luxury magazine, Adorn was one of the city’s top 35 restaurants in 2022. It was also included in the 2022 Chicago Michelin Guide and was a finalist in the Jean Banchet Awards for Pastry Program of the Year.
At the helm of Adorn’s kitchen is James Beard Award-winning Chef Jonathan Sawyer. Adorn’s menu boasts a fresh approach to American cuisine, with many dishes weaving in Asian flavors. To begin our dining experience, my husband and I decided on the creamy truffle polenta with fresh black truffle. We sipped Laurent Perrier Champagne and relaxed after a busy day exploring the Windy City.
For the main course, I chose the miso-glazed sablefish with hakurei sweet turnip, shoyu, and braised dandelion, and my husband ordered the fork & knife heritage fried chicken. The chef sent Lion’s Mane Mushrooms with mustard greens, tamarind BBQ sauce, sesame, and wafu—a Japanese dressing—to our table. This turned out to be the star of the night. I’d never heard of this big, beefy mushroom, which was outstanding. Most people probably overlook it as a main, but if you’re looking for something truly different and delicious, this is the dish to try.
With Juan Gutierrez, winner of Netflix’s pastry show School of Chocolate, leading the pastry program, dessert is a must. As a chocolate fiend, I opted for the Chocolate & Caramel, a delectable creation of chocolate mousse, caramel cremeux, and chocolate tuile.

Modernized Suites
San Francisco-based BAMO redesigned the one- and two-bedroom suites and the hotel’s apartments. The sophisticated accommodations have modern furnishings in neutral cream, grey, and brown tones.
Rottet Studio redesigned the 2,700 sq. ft. corner presidential suite with a neutral color palette and pops of blue and gold. For a splurge, book this suite with two king ensuite bedrooms, a dining room, and a living room fireplace. It is the perfect place to curl up and enjoy the sweeping lake view. The Suite occupies the corner of the 46th floor and is a truly remarkable home-away-from-home for families or couples seeking extra space in one of the top luxury hotels in Chicago.
