Traveling to New York the first time can feel overwhelming. These tips for traveling to New York for business can help you overcome those first-time jitters and enjoy the Big Apple!

Did you know that New York has more than 10 nicknames? That’s a lot of nicknames for one city! From The Big Apple to the City That Never Sleeps and Gotham, there are plenty of options to choose from when you’re referring to the city. New York is the largest city in The United States and one of the most popular business travel destinations in the world. If you’re planning on traveling to New York for business, here are several things you need to have figured out before boarding that flight!

How to Get There: New York Airports

New York has three major airports, which give business travelers the freedom to choose. John F Kennedy is among the biggest and busiest airports in the country. It’s so big that instead of an address it has its own zip code. Can you believe it? Because of its sheer size, getting through the immigration lines may be a bit of a problem.

LaGuardia’s reputation for delays and cancellations makes it unsuitable for business travelers with little time to spare. However, if you are not too pressed for time and want to save some money, LaGuardia may be your best bet. Located just about 12 miles (18 kilometers) from Times Square, an Uber ride from the airport will cost you about $80.

Newark Airport is roughly 25 kilometers from Manhattan and is well connected by public transport. If you are operating on a low budget or would like to avoid the hassles of John F Kennedy, this airport is worth considering.

Where to Stay When Traveling to New York for Business

Where you choose to stay will be greatly influenced by the nature of your work and your company’s policies. New York boasts some of the most beautiful hotels in the world. If you prefer to stay in a hotel during your business trip, thoroughly research the hotels near where you’ll be working before you get there. A great tip is to store your luggage for safer and more convenient exploring when you arrive or between hotels.

You could also choose to go for an Airbnb or one of the many beautifully furnished corporate apartments in NYC. The latter is a good fit if you plan on staying for several weeks or months in the city and want a place that feels like a home away from home.

Navigating the Big Apple

There are several ways to get around the Big Apple. Walking is pretty popular in this city, meaning you won’t appear out of place if you choose to walk to work or stroll during lunch breaks.

You can also choose to use the subway if you stay some distance from the workplace or meeting places. The New York subway is one of the most used subway across the world, with roughly 2 billion riders using the subway annually across the city’s five boroughs.

Cabs are also a reliable way to navigate the Big Apple. Worth noting is that most streets in this city are one way. As such, we highly advise that you always hail a cab in the direction you are traveling. It might cost you an extra $10 if a cab needs to make a few turns to get to the direction you are going.

Where to Get Work Done in NYC

Need to get work done in between meetings? New York offers a wide range of places to work from. Restaurant coworking is becoming a common trend in the Big Apple, primarily because they offer a more freeing environment when you want to avoid the conventional office setup.

Coffee shops are also a great place to get some work done. Nothing beats the feeling of sitting in a quiet space and finishing off some work as you sip from a big mug of coffee.

If you are looking to catch a break from work while on your business trip in New York, there’s no shortage of ways to do this. From enjoying drinks with colleagues after work to catching some comedy, the Big Apple doesn’t disappoint on this front.

If you’d like to get your morning run done, we recommend doing it in the iconic Central Park or at one of the many other parks spread out in the city. For example, Bryant Park is a great place to have a picnic with your co-workers any time of the year.
