We are talking about food trucks, hidden carts, and local vendors. Skip the lavish meals and enjoy the fresh, authentic meals you can find on your walks! Let’s look at the most scrumptious street food across Italy that will make any of the tours of Italy even more delicious!
Arancini
Imagine the best snack you could think of. And be prepared to be blown away by something that tops even that! Arancini are deep-fried rice balls usually filled with meat ragu, cheese, and peas, serving perfectly as a starter for in-between meals.

Its origins go back to 10th-century Sicily, and while it has become popular street food across Italy, Sicily still wins the top place for Arancini. So enjoy the rich flavors when you get snacky, and spice up your Sicilian trip!
Olive Ascolana
Exploring the streets of Ascoli Piceno and the region of La Marche can get tiring, and you will inevitably get a little hungry. If you do not want to stop for a full meal, find any local food truck and order Olive Ascolana. This is a snack of Italian olives stuffed with meat, then fried to make it crunchy and tasty!

Other cities and towns try to replicate the appetizer, but these particular green olives can be found only in the region of La Marche, so look nowhere else!
Porchetta Romana
You can probably already see the pattern of street food taking you to the smallest towns and secluded villages. This time, however, let’s head to the town of Ariccia in Rome. Stop by anywhere you see a food truck with delicious scents and lots of steam. Porchetta Romana is rolled pork filled with herbs and garlic, then slowly cooked until soft and tasty! It is usually put inside a panini sandwich, but you can still get it on its own.
Lampredotto
A perfect dish when the streets of Florence get chilly and the weather seems unwelcoming, lampredotto is a beef stew cooked with vegetables and spices to make it a meal to warm you up. It is served with a bun and sometimes a side of pesto sauce.

While it might seem like a full meal, it is not overly stuffy, so you can eat it before dinner or when you get just a bit hungry. You will probably see a lot of locals buying the soup from random vans in Florence, so just follow their lead and try it out for yourself!
Gelato Brioche
While it is a known fact that Italian ice cream is a top dessert and one of the most popular dishes to buy here overall, have you ever heard of Gelato Brioche?
The delicious repast is the famous Italian ice cream sandwiched between two buns, making it a sweet “burger”. The sweet and chilly flavors of Gelato mixes with soft and milky buns that melt in your mouth. The snack is so popular here that Italians eat it even for breakfast!

Said to initially be from Messina, Gelato Brioche is now the main appetizer during the Sicilian summer. You can also find it in parts of Calabria and Salento.
Cannoli
While we are already on the topics of desserts and Sicily, let’s look through another tasty, sweet masterpiece of Italian cuisine.
Cannoli is a well-known dessert in Italy, and while you can find it in most restaurants, there is something about street vendors making it right in front of you that somehow makes it a more authentic experience.
The sweet pastry is rolled into a tube and fried, then filled with delicious ricotta cheese and, at times, chocolate chips or strawberries. Then, to coronate the whole deal, they add cherries and dried orange peels on top!

While the whole of Sicily is well-known for Cannoli, it is said that you will get the best, most real thing in Palermo.
Sfogliatelle Riccia
Another sweetness that melts on your tongue and leaves you with a delicious aftertaste for the rest of the day is the famous Sfogliatelle Riccia. The best ones are made and sold in Campania, Naples. You can stop by any food cart and try the creamy yet crunchy, cheesy dessert. The thin, crisped layers of pastry are made of lard and filled with strongly-flavored cinnamon and lemon-spiked ricotta cheese.

While Sfogliatelle is a platter of calories, the addictive tastes are so worth it. And, who’s counting calories in Italy anyways?
Trapizzino
Well, maybe no Italian food list can be complete without some type of pizza. Or maybe we just could not resist recommending one of the most excellent street food options!
Trapizzino is what you get when you turn a regular pizza into a sandwich. Plenty of food trucks in Rome prepare this tasty meal, so you do not have to sit in overcrowded restaurants and can carry on with your journey! The pizza base is cut open in the middle and filled with any kind of ingredients you like. That includes meatballs, different types of cheese and sauces, and vegetables if you wish!
