Delicious Hot Coffee Recipes to Make at Home

I recently sampled a couple of varieties of Coda Coffee, Fair Trade and Organic certified coffees from a family-run Denver coffee company. I enjoyed the coffees by themselves (read my review of the coffees here), but was thrilled to get recipes for some delicious and fun hot coffee drinks to make at home. These would be ideal for the holidays, and a sure way to impress your guests.

Sparkling Coffee

  • 1 cup Strongly Brewed Coffee (or 3/4 cup cold-brewed coffee concentrate or
  • 3 shots of espresso)
  • ½ cup Sparkling Water or Club Soda
  • Crushed Ice
  1. Combine coffee and sparkling water and pour over ice.

Coffee Ice Cream


This is one of Susan’s Favorite Recipes

  • Large Scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream
  • 1/3 cup Strongly Brewed Coffee (or 2 shots espresso)
  • Chocolate Syrup to garnish
  1. Pour coffee over ice cream in a mug.
  2. Garnish with drizzle of chocolate syrup.

Boozy Blended Coffee Ice Cream

  • ½ gallon Vanilla Ice Cream
  • ¼ cup Rum
  • 1½ cup Strongly Brewed Coffee (or 1 cup cold brewed concentrate or 8 shots espresso)
  1. Combine ingredients in blender and blend until smooth and frothy. Serves 4.

Pumpkin Pie Coffee

  • 1 TBLS Canned Pumpkin
  • 2 TBLS Vanilla Extract
  • ¼ tsp Cinnamon, ground
  • 1 cup Milk
  • ½ cup Strongly Brewed Coffee
  1. In a saucepan, heat ingredients until steaming hot.
  2. Optionally, you can put mixture in a blender and blend for 15-20 seconds until thick and foamy.
  3. Pour into tall glass and serve.

Traditional coffee with coffee liqueur

  • 1 cup Brewed Coffee
  • 1 ounce Coffee Liqueur (such as Baileys or Kahlua)
  • Whipped Cream and Cinnamon Stick to garnish
  1. Combine coffee and coffee liqueur.
  2. Pour into a cup.
  3. Top with whipped cream and cinnamon stick.

Café Español – a drink for the adventurous

  • ½ ounce high alcohol content Rum, such as Bacardi 1551
  • Splash of Triple Sec
  • 1 ounce Coffee Liqueur (such as Baileys or Kahlua)
  • 1 cup Brewed Coffee
  • Whipped Cream and Nutmeg or Cinnamon to garnish
  • Sugar
  1. Rim glass with sugar.
  2. Add Rum and Triple Sec to glass and set alight. Be careful!
  3. Swirl flames for 20 to 30 seconds, then carefully douse with coffee liqueur.
  4. Fill glass with coffee.
  5. Top with whipped cream and a dash of nutmeg or cinnamon to garnish.
