Before you start out, you definitely need travel insurance, and you should compare travel insurance plans before picking one. But after that, what’s next on your packing list? Light and Airy Clothes
The first thing you need to think about is the type of clothes you should bring. Since many countries in Southeast Asia feature a tropical climate, you may end up feeling hot and stuffy if you choose to wear thick layers of clothing. To stay fresh and breezy, go for clothes made of moisture-wicking fabric, as they allow air to pass through the material and cool down your skin. You may also want to pack a few extra sets of clothing. Since you’ll likely sweat a lot, you’ll want to have enough fresh outfits to change into for the duration of your stay.
In terms of tops, you can’t go wrong with sleeveless tops. However, note that certain Southeast Asian cultures may consider it inappropriate to expose too much skin. Just to be on the safe side, pack a couple of simple tees as well as a light jacket to cover up whenever necessary.
As for your bottoms, it’s best to settle for shorts, especially if you’re planning to take lots of leisurely strolls or go hiking. However, if you’re traveling on business, pack a pair or two of lightweight slacks to beat the heat. Similar to your tops, though, you may want to pack some jeans in case you encounter places with dress codes that don’t allow for shorts.

Comfortable Footwear When Traveling to Southeast Asia
Whether you’re attending a business conference or going sightseeing, you’ll likely do a lot of standing and walking during your stay. That said, you may want to prepare your feet for the journey ahead.
Pack some light but sturdy footwear like rubber or leather sandals, as open-toed options can help keep your feet cool and breezy. If you prefer wearing closed footwear like sneakers, make sure to shop for the best compression socks you can find. These kinds of socks will serve you well whenever you have to stand in line or walk long distances. They’re also great for those long plane rides with little exercise.
Accessories for Sun Protection
Make sure your head and eyes are protected from the harmful rays of the sun by wearing the right accessories. While some people like wearing visors to shield their eyes from sunlight, you may want to opt for a cap or a bucket hat to protect your entire scalp as well. This is especially helpful if you’re going to spend lots of time outdoors during the day.

You’ll also want to wear a pair of sunglasses so you won’t become blinded by harsh sunlight. Don’t forget the sunscreen!

Hand Towels
Consider packing a couple of soft micro-fiber towels, as you can use them to wipe the sweat off your brow or the rest of your body if needed. This may not be the best item to use during a business meeting, though, since it will look rather informal. If you’ll be in a more professional setting during your trip, you can pack a few cloth handkerchiefs instead.
Pack an Umbrella When Traveling to Southeast Asia
Like a cap or bucket hat, an umbrella can help shield you from the sun. However, it can also keep you nice and dry in case it rains during your stay in Southeast Asia. If you’re visiting the continent during monsoon season, it’s especially important to bring an umbrella at all times, since the weather can be unpredictable. However, even if it’s not monsoon season, it’s best to keep even just a small foldable umbrella in your bag in case of a drizzle.
A Water Bottle
The hot and humid weather in Southeast Asia can make you feel thirsty more often. While you can purchase bottled water in most local convenience stores and groceries, you can avoid the trouble of lining up at the cashier (and work on being more eco-friendly) by bringing your own water bottle.
Before going on your trip, try researching parks or establishments close to your place of accommodation that have free public drinking fountains. You can then fill up your bottle at these locations whenever you need to. Better yet, try looking for accommodations that provide free water refilling stations for their guests.
