Beautiful desert vistas, Southwestern cuisine, and a tranquil spa await at Westward Look in Tucson. Read on to see why you should book a stay at Westward Look the next time you visit Tucson, AZ.

When driving onto the grounds at Westward Look Wyndham Grand Resort and Spa in Tucson, you are immediately taken in by the gorgeous surroundings. The area’s overwhelming natural beauty creates a sense of serenity. The villas, painted a muted mustard yellow, are designed with a low profile to melt into the landscape. They were just the type of place we were looking for on our recent visit to Tucson. We loved our nature-inspired stay at the Westward Look in Tucson.

When you enter the lobby, you are surrounded by a southwestern ranchy vibe. Dark wood tones, leather ranch-themed accessories, and a sprinkling of natural elements decorate the lobby. The floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the main pool bring in tons of natural light and make the space inviting.

Off the main room, the upstairs Vigas room is part of the original ranch home and is simply irresistible. Sitting in front of the roaring fire, surrounded by authentic Western furniture, it is easy to imagine the conversations shared here.

The original adobe home’s simple architecture shines through, along with the period decor and furnishings, giving the Westward Look an undeniable charm.

Westward Look Tucson History And A-List Guests

According to the property records, the land that the Westward Look Wyndham Grand Resort & Spa in Tucscon sits on today was once part of the Watson Ranch. Established in 1912 by William and Martha Watson, the ranch comprised 170+ acres at the base of the Catalina Mountains. Over the years, the ranch has welcomed many visitors and A-list movie stars, including frequent guests Dean Martin and John Wayne.

The original adobe ranch home the Watsons built still stands today and has been magnificently incorporated into the current property. You’ll see the original home in what is now the lobby, gift shop, and meeting rooms, among other spaces.

Today, the 240+-room Westward Look Tucson property spans roughly 80 acres. This luxurious Tucson resort and spa has everything you could want in a vacation property. The certified green resort is in a picturesque high desert setting and offers something for everyone. Business travelers will be pleased to know the resort offers free, fast Wi-Fi and over 20,000 feet of event space.

Accommodations

Our spacious and comfortable Casita Jr. Suite with two double beds and a sitting area was perfect for my sister and me. From the balcony of our suite, we watched the sky turn hues of brilliant reds, purples, and oranges. The sunset was magical, with the mountains as a backdrop and the city lights in view. Other accommodation options included the Posada Guest Rooms or StarGazer Spa Suites with private hot tubs.

Activities and Amenities

We wanted nothing more than to enjoy the Westward Look gardens and hiking trails during our stay. The grounds here are gorgeous. They’ve taken care to create many different spaces outside to enjoy the desert landscapes. And with the mountains in almost every direction, the views are impressive.

If you’re looking for more activity, the Westward Look has plenty of options. Horse enthusiasts will enjoy the stables onsite and can book a wrangler-guided trail ride. If you don’t want to miss a workout while here, the 24-hour fitness center has plenty of equipment to keep you in shape. The resort offers three pools along with three Jacuzzis for your relaxation.

Athletes will appreciate the numerous tennis, basketball, and volleyball courts. Cyclists will be happy to know there are biking trails onsite. Westward Look in Tucson also offers outdoor yoga seasonally, where you can practice while watching the sunrise or sunset. There’s so much you can do here you may not want to leave the property! For pet parents, you’ll appreciate knowing that the resort is pet-friendly.

Westward Look Dining

The property offers multiple dining options. Gold’s award-winning fine dining restaurant is just off the main floor lobby. It serves upscale cuisine with southwestern flavors. Vegetarians should try the grilled cauliflower steak, and meat lovers should try the smoked short rib stroganoff. Choose a spot inside the modern dining space or patio-side dining overlooking the pool. In-room dining is also available.

Lookout Bar & Grill is a more casual spot serving elevated snacks, flatbreads, burgers, and shareable. Grab a cocktail at the full bar and relax indoors or out. If you’re here on a weekend night, you may be able to enjoy live music!

Wellness at Westward Look Tucson

We took advantage of the full-service day spa. My 30-minute massage was just what I needed to work out the kinks from hunching over my laptop too much. If I’d had more time, I would have booked another massage appointment with my lovely therapist as she found all the knots in my back.

After the massage, I wandered the grounds and found the labyrinth. Set amid natural desert foliage, the labyrinth is a peaceful place to look inward and revel in the serenity of the outdoors. For those who haven’t walked a labyrinth, it is intended to be a form of natural meditation, help with stress reduction, and encourage creativity. You follow the path to the labyrinth’s center, then follow that same path on your way out.
