My first visit to Los Cabos in southern Baja California, Mexico, was an opportunity to discover the beauty of the Pueblo Bonito beach resorts in Mexico and the “luxury without limitations” ethic of the brand new Towers at Pacifica. The resort is located not far from Cabo San Lucas and sits right on the beach.

Discover Pueblo Bonito Beach Resorts

As we prepared for landing at the modern Los Cabos International Airport, I looked down and soaked in the turquoise beauty of the ocean. The ocean color was in sharp contrast to the grey-green Pacific Northwest ocean that was familiar to me and… it looked more tranquil down there. We landed and were ushered through the international traveler process that moved along rather quickly. I was joined by travel, golf and lifestyle journalists from across the US and Canada in a hosted three-day immersion experience.

As we left the airport we scanned the multitude of private car drivers and van companies and found our driver holding a sign announcing Quivira Los Cabos. We relaxed on a quick ride to our gated resort in a new luxury SUV.

After passing through the secure gate and driving up and over the hill with stunning views of the ocean, we arrived at Pueblo Bonito Pacifica and were greeted by a cadre of smiling employees in dark blue shirts and khakis, introduced to us as our butlers who escorted each of us directly to our rooms. Instead of waiting at a registration counter, we registered in the privacy of our rooms. Since I had an early flight I was tired and, after a brief introduction to the room and the services of my butler, Miguel, I was left in peace to open the curtains and revel in the warm sun and sea air.

Exploring The Towers at Pacifica

This new approach to service at Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Golf & Spa Resort came with the recent opening of The Towers at Pacifica – a multi-million-dollar “resort within a resort” expansion. My spacious room was on the fourth floor. My butler was available to me at any time. But for the moment, I wanted to reflect on the warmth of Baja California, look out over the carefully manicured beach and pools below and get ready for a sunset reception and dinner. I luxuriated on my private terrace and felt at home.

Pueblo Bonito Pacifica is an adult only, all-inclusive resort with a focus on quality and service. The 47 club-level guest rooms and suites of The Towers at Pacifica mirror the existing resort’s elegant and minimalist décor with warm organic elements that combine modernity and high-design with familiar homey comfort. In my room, I noticed local weavings framed and hung on the wall, a cool, mirrored coffee table and a pillow-laden bed draped in soft eggplant-toned fabric.

Six suites feature private plunge pools, and the majestic top-floor Presidential Suite boasts the finest ocean views in the entire resort. An array of high-end amenities, including 24-hour British Butler Institute-certified service, is a part of The Towers at Pacifica experience. Despite the term “tower,” the building is only five stories high suiting me perfectly and fitting in well with the environment.

And yes, there is more. While I was there I saw another building, almost finished. A third multi-level building of the expansion will include a new gourmet restaurant featuring traditional Baja cuisine that emphasizes native ingredients of the region, as well as a sophisticated bar and outdoor beach lounge on the ground floor; a state-of-the-art oceanfront fitness center on the second floor; and the VIP Towers Lounge on the third floor, available exclusively to guests of The Towers at Pacifica and accessible via sky bridge, all with dramatic ocean views. Towers Lounge guests will enjoy a variety of elevated culinary experiences rotating daily, as well as handcrafted cocktails to sip on at leisure.

While this sounds convenient and very enticing, there are restaurants and bars at the resort. All included in the stay is access to an additional 23 restaurants and 12 bars at sister resorts. Resort shuttles, on demand, can get you there and back. And, everywhere you go, a level of service and personal warmth is evident among the staff. You will feel truly welcomed.

Remarkable features of The Towers at Pacifica are the special experiences and excursions available to guests, easily arranged by a butler. These one-of-a-kind adventures are only offered at Pacifica and will add to an unforgettable Cabo experience. Sample offerings include:

Hook & Cook is one of two beachfront culinary experiences with a resort chef. Guests fish on the shore alongside the chef and use their fresh catch to create his signature mesa de ceviches.

The day I went surf fishing, I didn’t catch anything. But our chef had a backup plan. Out of the kitchen came fresh fish. And the ceviche was created right before our eyes while we snacked on chips and guacamole (also prepared on site).

We enjoyed watching every step of the preparation process with the ocean breeze and beach umbrellas providing comfort.

When it was time to eat, we relaxed at a beautifully set table right on the beach with the surf crashing just steps away.

Beach Dining

Beachfront Clam Roast is the chef’s other beach-side creation in which the chef roasts clams underneath the sandy turf using dry bushes, wood, iron, and stone. The clams are then dressed with a variety of vegetables, cold meats and fresh cheese, including handpicked rare local roots and cacti that are native to Baja.

Our group enjoyed a variation of this beachy clambake as the chef prepared charred clams, dressed them and served them to us at an evening dinner right on the beach. This was just one course and was paired with local wines by the resort Sommelier. And, I have to add that it got a bit chilly after the sun went down. My butler offered to go get my jacket from my room. I appreciated not having to leave my fellow diners and miss a course just to retrieve my jacket!

More Butler Services: Additionally, The Towers at Pacifica butlers – who view themselves as true “artists of service” – can create customized experiences in other parts of the resort and in town. From arranging a cliff-side proposal overlooking the Pacific Ocean at the award-winning (with breathtaking views) Quivira Golf Club, to leading guests to Cabo’s best street food, local shops, and more while carrying their bags for them, to coordinating a spectacular whale-watching trip during the winter months, Pacifica butlers are committed to helping guests make lasting memories.

Sailing and Shopping: We enjoyed excursions into town. One morning we went sailing with Cabo Adventures on their sleek 50-foot sailboat. The tours are limited to 20 people and are staffed with skipper, private photographer, and two staff who do everything from setting sails to serving cocktails.

Our destination was the famous Los Arcos rock formations at Lands End. It was a three-hour cruise and we saw the beautiful rock formations, seals, had a marvelous box lunch and viewed the luxury resorts on shore.

As we returned to the marina, we enjoyed seeing a fishing boat coming in followed by an aggressive seal who almost jumped in the boat to get fishy treats being doled out by the successful fishermen.

As we docked, our butlers were waiting for us. Our butler joined us for shopping and toted my camera bag for me.

When we wanted to rest and enjoy the view of the yacht harbor, the butler directed us to a great little restaurant where we relaxed with a margarita, guacamole and chips. When we finished, he joined us to walk and explore a bit more and then, when we finally tired, he quickly summoned a car to return to the resort. For a person new to the area, these small courtesies made an immense impression. I could stroll carefree and truly enjoy the time in town knowing my butler would take care of the details.

More to Do

In our short time experiencing The Towers at Pacifica, we enjoyed a sommelier-led wine dinner, breakfast and dinners at exclusive resort restaurants, local musical entertainment, toured the cliff-side Quivira Golf Club and had lunch there. We learned of the Sea Turtle Preservation Project and the supportive environment provided to the large number of resort employees. And, which I’ll soon be writing about, we toured the residences at Quivira. So when you fall in love with the resort, and Los Cabos, you can explore ownership of lovely homes so you really don’t have to leave!
