The Capital Hotel in London is one of those classic hotels I couldn’t help but feel privileged to visit. I had a sunny Junior Suite overlooking Basil Street. It felt uniquely British with antiques, thick carpet, and brocaded curtains. I enjoyed curling up after an evening at the theater in my own sitting room, cup of tea and book in hand, before heading off to a night’s slumber in the king bed under soft cotton linens.

The location is one of the things that puts the Capital at the top of my list. It’s in the heart of Knightsbridge in London, literally steps from Harrods and Harvey Nichols, just down from Sloane Street and Hyde Park.

The Capital Restaurant is another extraordinary feature and the wine list there is exceptional. I enjoyed an incredible meal paired with some great wine and an evening of conversation. What a way to start my London trip.

The Capital is a welcoming luxury hotel, a combination that is sometimes hard to find. I was there in the month of November, and it was wonderful to step inside the lobby from the blustery weather to feel the warm fire crackling in the fireplace. It was the perfect place for an afternoon cup of tea in the lounge.

Oh, and the concierge! The Capital wouldn’t be the same without the wonderful head concierge, Clive Smith. He will direct you to the best hot spots in London for sightseeing, shopping, dining, dancing, theater…London at your fingertips. Actually, the entire staff at The Capital is what puts this hotel, and my Junior Suite, in the list of top hotel rooms.

I’m looking forward to my next visit to London, and a return trip “home” to The Capital Hotel.
