See how the Razor Kayaks Edge Pro 1 performs on the water, from easy setup and stability to responsive handling and hard-shell-like rigidity.
Last week I was lucky enough to try out the new Razor Kayaks Edge Pro 1. Although I’ve done a bit of recreational kayaking in the past, mostly back home with my family in France, I definitely wouldn’t consider myself an expert. Still, I’ve always enjoyed being on the water, so I was curious to see how Razor Kayaks’ newest model compared to other kayaks I’ve used.
Setting Up the Razor Inflatable Kayak
Setting up the kayak was straightforward and intuitive, and I didn’t even need the instruction guide. I hesitated a couple of times about what to do next, but I think that was only because it was my first time with this specific model. I felt confident that after the second or third time using it, I’d have the steps down perfectly. It’s the kind of kayak where once you understand the sequence, it becomes very simple.
Packing it down afterward was just as easy. I think that’s something that’s always drawn me to inflatable kayaks. Being able to take them anywhere without a big car or special storage is a massive plus for me.

First Impressions: Safe, Comfortable, Reassuring
The first thing that stood out to me was how solid the kayak felt, considering it was inflatable. I was later told that this was due to the Tech-Stitch construction, which caused it to feel much firmer, like a hard-shell kayak, than some other inflatables I’d tried before. Because of this, I felt safe right from the start of paddling, and didn’t have that wobbly, uncertain feeling you can sometimes get.
I was also surprised by how comfortable it felt. As soon as I pushed off from the bank, I felt settled and secure, which made me excited to see what the kayak could do.
On the Water: Stable, Effortless, Enjoyable
The river was fairly calm that day, though there was the occasional bit of chop from passing speedboats. Even then, the kayak felt steady moving through the water, which I assume was because of the hull shape. This was my first time in an inflatable with a U-shaped hull, and it gave me a stable, grounded feeling that made me relax more than I expected.
While paddling, I was impressed by how easily it picked up speed. It didn’t take much effort to get going, and turning felt natural and responsive. As someone who isn’t the most experienced paddler, I appreciated that I never felt like I was fighting the kayak. It just felt intuitive.
I loved that I could stop to take a photo or enjoy the scenery in between paddling, then start again without losing control or having to correct too much. It made the whole outing feel less like a tough physical activity and more peaceful.

Covering Distance with Ease
The Edge Pro 1 was an easy kayak to travel far in. It moved smoothly and kept its momentum well, and although I didn’t have it for long, I managed to rack up some distance without really trying. Once I found a steady rhythm, it just kept gliding. And as I’ve already mentioned, I’m not an advanced paddler, so it was reassuring to feel comfortable going quite far without getting tired.
Enjoying the Scenery
On a separate note, I just really enjoyed being out on the water. The river is a beautiful spot, with trees lining the banks and lovely houses along the water. From the kayak, you see parts of the area you’d never notice from land. Because I felt so stable and paddling was easy, I could relax and take it all in. All in all, it was a really nice way to spend an afternoon.

How the Razor Kayak Edge Pro 1 Compared to My Previous Kayaks
The Edge Pro 1 reminded me of the kayaks my family had in the south of France—the same rigid, thick plastic feel that always made me feel safe. Ours back then looked bulkier, but the experience felt familiar. This new model just feels more refined and easier to handle.

How I’d Use It—And Further Testing
I’d most likely use the Edge Pro 1 for relaxed weekend outings: exploring hidden creeks, stopping for a picnic, maybe crossing to small nearby islands if conditions are right. As an inflatable, I love that I can take it anywhere without a big car. It really opens the door to new spots that don’t require a typical launch site. As someone who likes to explore, this feels like a great option for that.
And although my test was on fairly calm water, the Edge Pro 1 felt like it could handle bigger adventures if I want them, which is comforting.
Would I Recommend the Edge Pro 1?
For sure! I’d tell people the kayak is comfortable, reassuring, and responsive, so paddling feels genuinely enjoyable instead of like a workout. I kept coming back to the stability when thinking about my experience with the kayak. Also, the easy setup and convenience of an inflatable, combined with its rigid-kayak feel, make the Edge Pro 1 a real winner. Whether you’re moderately experienced or just getting started, it feels accessible to anyone. I love it.
