National Hot Breakfast Month is here! This February, grab a great breakfast, brunch or a perfect coffee at some of these great spots! This month, we feature some of our favorite places around the world or across the street, courtesy of our Wander writers. While she was in Hollywood recently, Wander contributor Barbara Barrielle discovered that it's not just power lunches—breakfast is the way to go. For the hippest and yummiest, choose the 101 Coffee Shop on Franklin Boulevard where it meets the 101 Freeway. Be sure to follow along for more Hot Breakfast Month articles here on Wander throughout February.

Mid-Century Glam in the Heart of Hollywood

A true coffee shop in every way from the extensive counter to the private semi-circle booths, 101 Coffee Shop is the cornerstone of the Best Western Hollywood Hills and is known for its retro mid-century flare. Lovingly restored with requisite Naugahyde and exposed stone walls, the only thing missing here are the surly waitresses with their aqua-colored uniforms.

The Mikey Fitz and “No Huevos” Rancheros

Instead, tatted, hip servers in t-shirts and jeans pour your coffee and sling your hash…and, yes, both corned beef and a smoked salmon hash is on the menu. Most famous, though, is probably the Mikey Fitz, a perfect combo of sweet and savory with a couple eggs, bacon or sausage and either French toast or a couple pancakes. It will set you back $8.95 from 7-10 AM when you order the Rush Hour Special.

On weekends only, you can grab the eggs Benedict or Florentine. Being LA, the “No Huevos” Rancheros is made with tofu instead of eggs, if you want something other than a traditional breakfast.

101 Coffee Shop - Hot Breakfast Month

Breakfasting quietly are young actors, studio executives, independent filmmakers, starlets, hard partiers and the tourists who frequent the hotel and get a true dose of Hollywood right in the coffee shop. I, having just released my first feature film, BREAK NIGHT, felt like I fit right in as I was meeting with the consultant responsible for getting us our film distribution deal. We met to talk about our upcoming film productions.

Whether it's to catch a glimpse of the next big thing, eavesdrop on a conversation about film finance woes or simply eat a great hot breakfast, 101 Coffee Shop is the ideal Hollywood choice. Open every day from 7 AM to 3 AM, the restaurant practically never closes and serves great burgers and pasta as well.
