When I first saw the list of wines offered by TXT Cellars and distributed by Vision Wine & Spirits, I loved the cute, catchy names, but I honestly wasn’t expecting good wines. It’s often that winemakers going for kitschy end up sacrificing taste. I recently tried both the riesling and the cabernet sauvignon and was pleasantly surprised by simple, unpretentious and drinkable wines.

Fun marketing

TXT Cellars obviously markets its wines, which all have fun texting acronyms for names, to a younger audience. The Millennial generation can likely relate to the humor and edginess of this new brand that hit the market in late 2011. The easy drinkability and $9.99 price tags make this an ideal casual wine.

About the wines

TXT Cellars has six varieties, each with a fun, catchy label and tongue-in-cheek description:

• WTF!!! is a Pinot Noir with 11% alcohol by volume (abv) suggested for pairing with cheese dishes, spicy stews and chocolate desserts. Or, as the wine maker says, “WTF, just drink it by itself.” The Pinot Noir is a German Rhine wine that you’ll want to serve slightly chilled at 54-58° F.
• LMAO!!! is a light, crisp Italian Pinot Grigio billed as a “sipping wine.” It also goes well with salads, chicken and seafood. This 11.5% abv wine is best chilled at 44-48° F.
• LOL!!! is the Riesling I sampled. This is a good drinkable German Mosel Riesling. The 9.5% abv wine is fresh, with a citrus note. It is a bit sweet, but the high acidity of the wine balances it out and makes it easy to drink. It’s an ideal wine for sushi and spicy dishes, or my favorite shrimp and grits. It’s always fun bringing a bit of Germany to the Old South. Serve this one chilled at 44-48° F.
• OMG!!! is a Chardonnay with 11.5% abv. I’m not generally a Chardonnay fan, so I am intrigued by this one and will try it. It should be a nice wine for Thanksgiving. This Italian wine is touted as a crisp, drinkable Chardonnay with a bit of peach flavor. The wine should be served chilled at 42-46° F. It should pair nicely with fish and chicken.
• GR8!!! is a Cabernet Sauvignon from France with a gorgeous ruby red color. I sampled this one at a wine tasting and also found it to be a pleasant, drinkable wine, which seems to be the theme for the TXT Cellars wines. This is a bit peppery and works well with grilled meats and roasts. The 13% abv wine is best served at 56-60° F.
• CYA!!! is a French Shiraz with 12% abv. As with most Shiraz wines, this one has a pepperiness and berry flavors. You’ll want to serve CYA at 56-60° F and is ideal with burgers, barbecue and pasta with meat sauce.
