Feast Portland is a week of huge tented tasting events, small dinner affairs, fun sized events and classes. The charity event brings together the bounty of the Pacific Northwest and its adoring public.

And sometimes, there are even more surprising events to experience than the ones listed for the public. It was through a special media luncheon hosted by Washington State Wines that I discovered a fairly new restaurant, SuperBite, in downtown Portland. And they certainly won me over.

Through our many, many course luncheon, we experienced the talent of chefs Greg Denton and Gabi Quiñónez Denton and the delights of Finnriver Farm and Cidery, Owen Roe Northwest wines and Dusted Valley wines from Walla Walla.

Not only was SuperBite a real discovery I am eager to share, but learning more about Washington wines and cider gave me some great ideas for places to go around Oregon and Washington.

SuperBite is the second successful restaurant owned and led by chefs Greg and Gabi. Their first was the highly touted Ox Restaurant. It is a popular small restaurant with a neighborhood feel. OX Restaurant finds inspiration in the wood-fired grilling tradition of Argentina, and with it, the culinary heritage of Spain, France and Italy. And, I found that SuperBite offers similar hearty dishes plus an enticing menu of delicate small plates.

SuperBite wants to appeal to everyone… the diner who wants a cocktail and a small plate before the theater as well as those desiring a full meal with wine pairings for a leisurely evening. Our luncheon, planned by the chefs, provided us with selections from the menu served family style. In this photo essay, I am sure you’ll be impressed with the culinary artistry as well as be drawn into the imagery featuring the deliciousness of the fresh foods. If the pictures make the food look good, believe me it is that good!

Throughout the luncheon we were introduced to wineries, wine makers and amazing Washington wines. Owen Roe winery sources from the Yakima Valley of Washington and the Willamette Valley of Oregon. All of their grapes are hand harvested, handled with minimal processing, small-lot fermented and aged in French oak barrels. Their description of the Wapato winery in the Yakama Valley was enticing. “Views of the Ahtanum Ride, Mt. Adams and the surrounding valley floor are within sight of our state of the art winery. From inside our barrel cellar hall, guests can peer out the massive glass roll-up doors, or wander out onto our winery lawn to take it all in and relax in the warm Yakima sun.“ You’ll find places to taste Owen Roe wines in both Oregon and Washington.

Finnriver Farm and Cidery, located in Chimacum, Washington sounded like a great place to go with the family. Orchard tours, cider garden, tasting room and special events sound like fun and a great excuse to visit the Port Townsend area. “The Finnriver Orchard is a historic former dairy farm that has been renovated to establish our organic farm and apple orchard, a working farm collaborative, our public tasting room, and a farm-based community gathering place for people of all ages.”

Feast Portland introduced me to a restaurant I had not previously experienced that really offered a WOW experience. Plus, now I will be planning a tasting trip to Washington wineries.
