Morocco is one of Africa’s most visually striking countries, and a great way to explore it is by van. Take advantage of the opportunity to grab your backpack and some camping gear and go on a van trip. Let’s explore some top-notch places to visit in Morroco in a van!

The Atlas Mountains

The Atlas Mountains are the most extensive mountain range in Africa. The Atlas Mountains extend into Algeria and Tunisia, but it is in Morocco where they become most dramatic and imposing. The highest peak is Jebel Toubkal at 4167 meters (13,671 feet), while Jebel Kissane reaches 4152 meters (13,622 feet), and Jebel Ouenat soars to 4092 meters (13,425 feet).

There are numerous hiking trails through some of the most beautiful scenery on earth. You can hike through forests, deserts, or even valleys formed by rivers that have carved their way through the mountains for thousands of years. The best time to visit is spring or autumn when temperatures are cooler than in summer. Overall, you get a great chance to see the mountains in a van.

The Dunes of Merzouga

The desert is one of Morocco’s main attractions, and it’s impossible not to think about this while planning your van trip to Morocco. The most popular sandboarding place is Merzouga, also known as “the gateway to the desert.” Massive dunes reaching more than 50 meters (164 feet) high surround this village near Erfoud. The area is trendy among tourists who come here to climb the dunes on camels or horseback through the golden sands of the Sahara Desert.

The Valleys and Waterfalls of Ouzoud

Ouzoud Valley is one of the most beautiful valleys in Morocco. It is located between the High Atlas Mountains and Anti-Atlas Mountains at 2,000 meters (6561 feet). This place has become an international tourist destination. The local people call Ouzoud “the door to heaven.”

The Ruins of Volubilis

Volubilis is one of Morocco’s most famous archaeological sites. It is located in the southern city of Meknes, about four hours from Marrakech by car. The ruins date back to the Roman era when Romans occupied Morocco from the second century BCE. Their architecture, religion, and language significantly impacted the country. Exploring the Ruins of Volubilis is a must during your trip to Morocco in a van.

Rabat is the capital of Morocco. It is the largest city in the country, with a population of over 1 million people. Rabat was founded by Berbers and later conquered by the Muslims during the 8th century. Today it is known for its beautiful architecture and historic sites. You will enjoy exploring the architecture in Rabat. It’s amazing!
