Chocolate WOW moment at Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort and Spa

I came across this photo today as I was going through my photo archives and I decided it was one of those “wow” moments I needed to share. I was a guest of the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort & Spa in Chandler, Arizona back in October of 2009 and the chef sent this wonderful plate of chocolate treats to my room. Even though it has been well over a year, I can still remember the way each one tasted. That’s how great this chocolate was!

Yes, it’s all chocolate. Yes, it’s all edible. The little bull heads? Chocolate dipped berries. The saguaro cacut? Carved white chocolate rolled in pistachios (probably Arizona pistachios). The “stick” was a wonderful dark chocolate twirl. The little cowboy hats were truffles and the other assorted chocolates were indescribably delicious, all painted in some type of lustrous edible paint. Everything was soft and creamy, with that lovely chocolate snap on the outside when I bit into it, then the soft center. Every chocolate lover’s delight.

I enjoyed munching on those chocolates during my stay. Of course, the entire resort is a relaxing place to wander. There’s a lovely walking path that highlights some of the native vegetation. The pool is fabulous. The food is incredible. The spa is comfortable and feels genuine. It’s not one of the larger spas in the Valley, but I find it to be one of the more peaceful ones, with true understanding of relaxation.

But, the chocolate. Nothing can beat really good chocolate. It makes everything else just seem like small stuff. The only tragedy of the entire weekend was when I returned home the next morning and was unpacking the car. I had carefully placed the remainder of the chocolates, most notably the white chocolate saguaro, one of the little dipped pieces, and one of the little “hats,” in a bag to bring home. It was nowhere to be found. Then I remembered. I had set it down so it wouldn’t be crumpled as I gathered my suitcase. I had forgotten my chocolate! What travesty.
