Arizona summers are hot. But it’s also the ideal time to take advantage of great summer staycation deals. I continue my roundup of amazing Arizona staycations today with Westin Kierland Resort & Spa in North Scottsdale.

Be sure to check out all of my choices for great Arizona staycations here.

Westin Kierland Resort & Spa, Scottsdale

I was just out at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa in North Scottsdale, and it is always such a pleasure to sit on the patio in Dreamweavers Canyon Courtyard, enjoy a cool drink, listen to the bagpipes at dusk, and watch the stars twinkle in the Arizona sky.

Your entire family can join the staycation fun with the Big Chill Package, which includes:

  • Available May 30 through September 5, 2016
  • Rates are $169 per room, per night May 30 through July 31 and $149 per room, per night from August 1 through September 5.
  • Choose from either a $50 per room, per night dining credit OR two free sessions on the Kierland FlowRider wave simulator

Every day throughout the summer, The Westin Kierland’s own FUN Team will lead thrill- and chill-seeking adventurers in a wide range of wintery-themed activities perfect for escaping the summer temps. And, the frosty fun steps up every weekend: each Saturday afternoon, the Resort hosts the Polar Plunge as hundreds of pounds of ice are dropped into the pool and a DJ spins his cool tunes at the Friday and Saturday night Pool Parties featuring Smokin’ Jack’s BBQ. Plus, guests can “Surf Into the Sunset’ with discounted pricing on Kierland FlowRider.

In the evenings from May 27- July 4, 2016, Resort guests and locals alike can enjoy The Westin Kierland’s one-of-a-kind PaintScaping, in which themed 3D images and animations are projected across the Resort’s 11-story main building and set to music. The art of “PaintScaping,” derived from ‘painting the landscape,’ merges a virtual world with the existing world by projecting 3-dimensional digital mapping onto buildings that act as the canvas for characters, colors, and objects as living and moving parts of the façade. This summer the PaintScaping show will feature all-American imagery paired with patriotic music. Held at 8 p.m., 8:30 p.m., 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. nightly, the show is free and open to the public.

Located in the heart of Scottsdale, The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa provides contemporary amenities and design while helping its guests to experience the Essence of Arizona through an ever-changing collection of paintings, rare photographs, and commissioned artworks as well as an educational wildlife program.

The Resort’s full-service spa, Agave, The Arizona Spa, showcases traditional therapies handed down from Arizona’s many cultures of healing, as well as rare ancient treatments infused with the essence of the Far East. The massage has a tranquil relaxation room and some innovative massage treatments. I love the use of agave in various treatments, making them ideal for the hot summer sun.

Bringing together perfectly manicured golf, golf boards, golf bikes and Segway golf, the best exercise physiology and on-site golf equipment fitting, the Kierland Golf Experience is the area’s most innovative golf program. The rejuvenation continues at the Resort’s 10 unique dining venues, with its renowned Heavenly Bed®, and with premier shopping and dining destinations located adjacent to the Resort.

While at Westin Kierland, be sure to book dinner reservations at deseo, the resort’s fine dining restaurant. The word deseo means desire in Spanish and this Nuevo Latino cuisine caters to your every desire. The bread is so good and that’s just the start. There are amazing ceviches, created with such flair and ingenuity. I love to sit at The Rail and watch the chefs at work. The creativity always blows me away.

Complementing the Resort’s award-winning FUN program for all ages is its Adventure Water Park complete with 110-foot-long waterslide, 900-foot lazy river and the Kierland FlowRider board sport simulator.
