Hotel le Germain is a contemporary boutique hotel located in the heart of Toronto’s entertainment district. The chic hotel has a contemporary architecture and features dark woods and metals, with beautiful swatches of deep reds. I loved walking into the lobby. I was there in November and it smelled delightful with the fire burning in the library adjacent to the lobby. It was warm and inviting against the chilly Canadian weather. You can’t beat the location and it’s small enough that you receive personal service from the moment you walk in the front door.

My room at Hotel le Germain was nice and efficient. No frills, but very comfortable with some of my favorite luxury touches. It had a lovely goose down duvet and fluffy feather pillows. The reading lamps by the beds were easy to adjust and even with my short arms I could reach the switches without getting out of bed. I loved the glass wall between the shower and the bedroom that was covered with wooden blinds. The room’s light was subdued, but with perfect directional lighting for working at the desk and for putting on makeup in the bathroom. One fun feature was that the room number was etched into each drinking glass in the room in large numbers. The rainfall shower was perfect — not too high or too low and just the right amount of pressure.

Turn-down service was very personable. The bed was turned down, remote control and a complimentary bottle of water placed bedside, bucket of ice for a nightcap from the small bar in the room, fresh glasses left for drinks, towels replaced.

Breakfast was included and served in a beautiful room that looked more like a chic restaurant than typical hotel breakfast room. I had wonderful strawberries each morning, and cooked items were also available. The fresh squeezed orange juice and strong coffee was welcome.

Once again, however, the thing that set Hotel le Germain apart for me was the staff. On my second day in Toronto, I ended up after breakfast with a killer migraine. There was no way I could go out, so I returned to my room to rest for a couple of hours. I pushed the do-no-disturb button in the room, which illuminated a small red light outside my door, and slept like a baby. Just before noon, as I ran out to catch a taxi, I neglected to turn the do-not-disturb light off as I jumped on the elevator and made my way downstairs. When I returned to the hotel at about 5 p.m., I exited the elevator and my maid, whom I’d spoken to earlier and had tipped the previous day, was sitting in a small waiting area on the floor. She got up when I arrived and explained that she had waited to see if I wanted her to service my room, as she assumed I had forgotten to switch off the light. That was such a welcome gesture. I spent a few minutes in the lobby while she straightened my room, and left her a hefty tip for my stay!

Hotel le Germain in Toronto is in my top hotel room list for its exceptional customer service combined with a comfortable room with just enough touch of elegance to make a trip unforgettable.
