I recently spent several days in Sonoma County. I love that part of California. It’s beautiful with vistas of grapevines, flowers and towering trees. The hundreds of fruit trees dotting the landscape were all in bloom and the cool spring air made my steps lighter. I had a wonderful time wine tasting and touring the area. But perhaps my favorite part of the trip was staying at Honor Mansion, a wine country resort.

Honor Mansion is the romantic vision of innkeepers Cathi & Steve Fowler. It has been chosen as one of the “Top 10 Most Romantic Inns” by American Historic Inns, Inc. This AAA Four Diamond award-winning small resort inn sits in the heart of Sonoma County and the perfect place to stay while you explore the wine region.

I stayed in one of the gorgeous Vineyard suites. The room was beautifully decorated and the bed was divine. I loved the big bathroom with luxurious soaking tub. I had my own private back patio that included a hot tub, fountain and table for two. The hot tub was perfect in the evenings after a day spent exploring the nearby wineries and the shops in Healdsburg.

The inn’s grounds include a large pool, a PGA putting green, bocce ball courts, tennis court, croquet lawn, jogging trail, half-court basketball and a beautiful garden off the main inn that includes a lovely koi pond and an old hibiscus that towers over the garden. The best part of the experience, though, was meeting the innkeepers. Cathi and Steve were wonderful hosts. The breakfasts were delightful. Their hospitality was impeccable. I loved the afternoon wine and appetizers and my nights weren’t complete without stopping in after dinner for a cup of Cafe Mocha.

If you find yourself in Sonoma, be sure to call ahead and get a room at Honor Mansion. Whether you stay in a suite or one of the rooms in the inn, you’ll feel right at home. Visit online at www.honormansion.com for all the details.
