Wine & Roses Hotel is in Lodi, California, one of the nation’s hottest wine destinations. The hotel also houses the Lodi Wine & Visitor Center in a two-story adobe building. There’s a demonstration vineyard nearby, where Merlot, Syrah and other grapes crowd individual rows.
While there is an adjacent thoroughfare and ball diamond, once you step inside the lushly landscaped hotel, everything outside fades away. You’ll find spacious rooms and two restaurants onsite. There’s also a fabulous spa and gorgeous outdoor pool. This is lodging that charms guests amid soothing, upscale surroundings, providing a perfect place to stay in Lodi, California.
Soothing Comfort at Wine & Roses Hotel
On each night of our stay in Lodi, I sank into luxurious white linens, surrounded by taupe walls and white trim. Pale wood complemented neutral upholstery and rattan chairs. Visible eves in my second-floor room captivated me (note – there are no elevators).
Aveda skin and hair care products awaited in the equally spacious bathroom. Fixtures in the deep soaker tub and shower had an antique gunmetal sheen. In the tile entryway, a one-cup coffee maker stood atop a small cabinet. The mini-fridge hid behind the door. A full-size umbrella was a thoughtful addition to two robes in the closet.
Across the room, white louvered window shutters mirrored louvered doors leading to an expansive porch. The small outdoor teak table and chairs created a relaxing environment. This is a great spot for morning coffee or evening wine.
Restaurant Fare at Wine & Roses Hotel
Both restaurants at the Wine & Roses Hotel use local and seasonal ingredients whenever possible. In addition, many ingredients actually grow on the property.
Gourmet fare characterizes Towne House Restaurant meals. A welcome dinner for our group featured six courses and wine pairings. We savored local farm eggs with smoked sturgeon and brioche plus autumn greens with grapes, walnuts, spiced yogurt, and delicata squash slivers.
Ricotta gnocchi followed that course. Beautifully designed entrees included kale, almonds, and pears with sliced duck breast. We also enjoyed California Lamb Loin with Jimmy Nardello peppers, farro, and salsa verde. Poached Seckel Pears and local Gewurztraminer completed the meal.
Breakfast was a relaxed affair where September offerings included Johnny Cakes with fruit compote. Breakfast burritos and a smoked salmon scramble were also available. During the unseasonably warm weather, we ordered delicious lunch salads on the adjacent covered deck. Sandwiches and entrees also filled the menu.
In addition to the restaurant, I found tasty grab-and-go items inside the new Towne Corner Café and Market on two mornings. My first breakfast included a hard-boiled egg and a yogurt parfait. The second meal featured a strawberry-banana smoothie and a muffin-shaped veggie-laced frittata. Open for breakfast and lunch, the café sells fresh sandwiches, hummus, large, soft cookies, and much more.

Flowers and More at Wine & Roses Hotel in Lodi
Landscaping at this property beautifully complements accommodations. Early each morning, groundskeepers fan out with hoses and clippers to tend these gorgeous surroundings.
Flowers grow everywhere. They decorate the parking lot and climb trellises, line winding pathways and adorn the Wedding Garden. Densely planted old-growth deciduous and palm trees create a deep green palette overhead. There’s even a small pumpkin patch near the entrance, which grows enormous fruit each fall.
