Royal Palms Resort and Spa began as a private villa—El Vernadero—for Delos and Florence Cooke in 1929. Then, Al Stovall, a renowned bandleader, purchased the 65-acre estate at the base of Camelback Mountain and opened it as the Royal Palms Inn in winter 1948.
Over the years, I've been privileged to watch the evolution of this romantic property that turns 70 this month! Now, you too can join in the anniversary celebrations on Thursday, September 20, 2018.
Celebrating the 70th Anniversary
Reliving the glamour, hope and confidence of the post-World War II era in which the resort opened to the public, Royal Palms is giving guests a glimpse into its stored journey with an evening of Frank Sinatra-inspired live jazz music, some of the most memorable dishes and libations from the resort's legacy T. Cook's restaurant, a first look at the new outdoor event spaces, and exciting giveaways. With a cocktail in hand, guests are invited to stroll the grounds during the progressive evening where various culinary and entertainment experiences welcome them along the way. You can learn more about the history of the resort before your visit here.
The evening will feature three action stations throughout representing signature dishes and cocktail pairings including paella, Kobe beef sliders, Sea Bass fish tacos, a Mediterranean display of hummus, cheeses, olives, Artisan bread, and dessert. You'll also find cocktails, beer, wine, and champagne.
