I scream, you scream, we all scream for the Instagram-worthy The Art of Ice Cream Experience! I love art, pop-up exhibits, ice cream, and I really love taking silly, whimsical pictures. The Art of Ice Cream Experience, located in Old Town Scottsdale, checks every one of those boxes! This pop-up exhibit is a great place for everyone from the young to the young-at-heart.
Pop-in for some Social Art
Pop-up exhibits and shops are all the rage right now and they are great! It’s their temporary nature that brings a sense of excitement and intrigue. This pop-up combines art, ice cream and social media. It has eight rooms that are all ice cream themed and the art is delightfully interactive. Pictures and selfies and silly poses are encouraged by the staff as the Art of Ice Cream Experience is more than just art and ice cream it is a social experiment involving the art of self expression on social media.
Selfies get a lot of slack for vanity but they have been a major theme in the art world for as long as humans have been making art. From Picasso to Michelangelo, and every child in kindergarten, capturing yourself as your see yourself (physically and metaphorically) is just human nature. I am a big fan of the selfies that my children take, that I take and those of every stranger I see on Instagram. How we pose and share ourselves with the outside world gives insight into what we aspire to be.
Each of the rooms at The Art of Ice Cream Experience is unique and filled with a whimsy that really brings a smile to your face. From the floor to the ceiling you will surrounded by the artistic world of ice cream.
Meet the Artists
Kayla Newnam, Scottsdale muralist, created the The Ice Cream Angel wings and sprinkles that run down the second staircase. She is also the mastermind behind the Milkshake wall in the Shake it Up room.
Katie Von Kral created the coloring book wall in an interactive hallway. Her inspiration came from old fashioned ice cream parlors. It is a fun piece filled with notes, signatures and doodles from previous guests.
Dawn Bowman is the artist behind the floating ice cream cones in the Neapolitan Beach Room. Ice cream cone clouds float among fluffy white clouds and a ball pit elicits a belly laugh out of every one.
Justin Pierce, also known as J. Pierce, is an American contemporary artist who designed the “Selfie” wall and the graffiti style Popsicle Room. Each of his works is bright and bold with fun intense colors making a great backdrop for selfies.
When you go to the Art of Ice Cream Experience
The Art of Ice Cream Experience is not affiliated with the well-known Museum of Ice Cream but don’t worry. It is a unique and fun experience all on it’s own! The pop-up is scheduled to be available through May. It may be extended but as per the nature of a pop-up it’s temporary so check it out now while you still can. Visit their website to schedule your visit!
