Bright potted flowers, and three-foot chile ristras, decorated the entrance inside the blue swinging gate at American Artists Gallery House B&B in Taos, New Mexico. My longtime friend, LeAn Clamurro, greeted us warmly. Her husband, Charles, waved from across the front room.
The early fall sun sank in the cobalt sky as LeAn directed us to the Guest Cottage/casita we would share for two nights.
American Artists Gallery House B&B Accommodations
At this one-of-a-kind B&B our lovely two-bedroom, two-bath casita also included a small but fully equipped kitchen. A little sitting room featured a wall-mounted television.
Creative touches included wall art, which you can purchase if you find one that you fall in love with, carved closet doors and whimsical metal light switch covers. Individual tiles decorated the face of each kiva fireplace and infused bathrooms with New Mexican style. We found firm mattresses made up with a smooth, comfortable linens on each bed.
Other accommodations at the American Artists Gallery House B&B include Gallery East, with two double beds, and a cozy sitting area beside the kiva fireplace. There’s a king bed in Gallery West plus a mini refrigerator and a tile floor. Gallery Chamisa has a queen bed, while Gallery Pinon includes a queen bed with a view of the kiva fireplace. There’s an open side sitting area too, where a television and desk reside.
Brightly colored bedding tops a queen bed inside Garden Gallery. It opens onto a small, flower-filled brick and fieldstone patio with several lounge chairs. In many accommodations massive and rugged viga ceiling beams enhance New Mexico ambiance. Wood is available for kiva fireplaces from mid-October through April.
For ultimate luxury, guests may book a Jacuzzi Suite where French doors open to reveal king-sized beds. Double-size jetted tubs with overhead skylights provide gorgeous star-studded views. The suites include wet bars, refrigerators, and views of majestic Taos Mountain too. In addition, comfortable, cushioned bentwood chairs fill the portal (covered porch) for these contiguous suites.
Historic Taos Hospitality at American Artists Gallery House B&B
Cobblestone paths wander through the B&B property, amid yellow-flowered Chamisa shrubs and small conifer trees. Bright blue paint punctuates window and door frames and ornamental elements embedded in the adobe walls.
The Clamurros have owned this unique lodging venue for 24 years after two previous owners oversaw the property. Located near the main road of Taos, American Artists Gallery House is a quiet haven full of quintessential Northern New Mexico charm. Here, magpies visit and the resident peacock, George, chows down on daily meals.
Breakfast & Conversation at American Artists Gallery House B&B
Breakfast for guests is a multi-course affair, served at 8 am daily. There’s plenty of tea and coffee available and small fruit smoothies often kick off morning meals. Ellen and I savored blue corn and blueberry waffles and turkey sausage as we socialized at the communal table.
We had traveled from as far as Florida, Texas, Michigan and the Kansas City area and many of us drove. One woman departed quickly, to reach her artist’s workshop on time. A young couple, who lived in the British Virgin Islands until recent hurricane devastation, was traveling through the U.S. They hoped to find a new place to relocate with their young sons – who were temporarily staying with grandparents.
But breakfast isn’t the only time when guests may interact. Each evening, coffee, tea, cake, and cookies are available in the dining area, and there’s a public computer in the living room.
