The Phoenician, an iconic Arizona resort, recently began renovations. I had the pleasure of attending the media preview of the Mowry & Cotton opening with Wander With Wonder editor-in-chief, Susan Lanier-Graham.

Introducing Mowry & Cotton

Mowry & Cotton will be serving Modern American cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner; with weekend brunch available soon. The restaurant combines comfortable with rich luxuriousness creating a perfect ambience with deep wood tones, supple leather and wool seating. We loved the floor to ceiling windows that allow the light to flood the space. Casual luxury is perfectly encapsulated in Cotton & Mowry’s design. It feels like a place to enjoy good company and laugh with friends and family.

The food offered is both bold and simple, combining comforts of home cooking with fresh produce and beautiful presentation. Nothing that they offered during the media preview disappointed!

The concept by Chef Tandy Petersen, chef de cuisine of the Phoenician, crafted a place that guests can sit and enjoy a meal that flows organically. Food is prepared with sharing in mind, the atmosphere makes it is easy to sit back, relax with a glass of wine and lose yourself in the flavors and the company.

We highly recommend the buttermilk buns! Chef Rebecca Tillman shared with us the tale of how she uses her grandmother’s recipe for the buns. They are perfection. Soft, salty, and warm, they are served with a citrus sea salt butter and a duck fat fig butter.

We loved the Mowry Chop Salad. Sometimes ordering a salad ends in a less than satisfying meal but this salad with avocado, corn, peppers, cotija, black currant, pheasant and molé was flavorful and exciting.

BBQ Beets, with mustard greens, chickpea and smoked onion yogurt will impress even the beet haters in any dinner party!

Guests can enjoy lamb tacos, wild mushroom flatbread and even roasted salmon from the dinner menu. Everything we tasted during the media preview was delicious. The flavors, the texture and even the presentation met every expectation a guest could want.

I absolutely loved the grilled pheasant! It is served with Cipollini onion, broccolini, almond, citrus and cherry. It is available as half the bird or the whole bird to really add to the homey, community style dining that Mowry & Cotton embodies.

Dessert options didn’t disappoint. With Lemon Meringue on the menu, I was enthralled. I love this sweet and tart citrus dessert. They also gave us a taste of the Peanut Butter Bar, which is a soft caramel, mousse, and chocolate croquant. Dessert was balanced perfectly with the flavors from previewed dinner offerings!
