This summer, Joya Spa at Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia is offering Summer Quench IV Therapy. IV therapy delivers essential vitamins and nutrients directly into the bloodstream and can help increase energy, improve sleep, balance mood, and more. We asked Dr. Lauren Beardsley, Licensed Naturopathic Physician, to tell us a little bit more about this innovative treatment.
Question and Answer about Summer Quench IV Therapy
Q: What exactly is IV?
A: IV or intravenous therapy contains vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and/or antioxidants that can influence health and wellness in many ways. By bypassing the gastrointestinal tract IV therapy delivers essential nutrients directly into the bloodstream for immediate benefit.
Q: What is the benefit of IV Therapy?
A: IV Therapy delivers essential vitamins and nutrients directly into the bloodstream and can help increase energy, improve sleep and balance mood. And as a bonus: the benefits are instant!
Q: Are there different types of IVs available?
A: Yes! IVs can be formulated with different nutrients to focus on specific goals. For example, Joya Spa provides specific IV therapies including those for Energy, Detox, Immunity, and Recovery to name a few.
Q: How is IV administered?
A: IV stands for intravenous and therefore an IV is administered by placing a needle into an appropriate vein. This is done by a trained licensed physician and is a simple procedure.
Q: Does it hurt?!
A: Because it is a needle poke, there is mild pain but after the initial stick, there should be no pain.
Q: How long does an IV take?
A: Dependent upon the individual, IVs can take anywhere from 30-60 minutes
Q: How often can you get an IV?
A: Dependent upon your concerns as well as why we are administering IV therapy (acute sickness or chronic condition) – IVs can be done once, a few times per week or monthly. Commonly, for general support I recommend 1-2 times monthly especially when someone is new to the therapy.
Q: Can anyone get IV Therapy or are there any restrictions?
A: Most everyone can get an IV though there are some restrictions with certain ingredients and formulations. Often the doctor will inquire about pregnancy, chronic kidney or liver disease or any fluid overload as this will change which formula is most appropriate to use.
Q: Is there any difference between getting an IV at Joya versus a doctor’s office setting?
A: There is no difference in the ingredients themselves but the experience is, in my opinion, MUCH DIFFERENT. The environment is intentionally very calm and soothing to allow for the most peaceful and restorative experience possible. The doctor also will remain in the room to discuss any questions you may have as well as discuss the benefits of the treatment overall. Lastly, you have access to all spa amenities including a comfortable massage table to lie on, towels and pillows to ensure comfort, warm neck and eye wraps if desired, essential oil blends to enhance therapeutic benefit, dim lights and relaxing music—a completely different experience compared to a clinical doctor’s office.
Q: Out of all the Joya Summer Quench series is there one that is better for a “first time” IV?
A: I would recommend the Energy Nutrient IV for first timers—because who does not need more energy. This blend contains naturally occurring substances that can provide a quick boost for anyone’s day.
Q: How should I expect to feel after an IV?
A: GREAT. The benefits of nutrient IV therapy are often noticed immediately following the session because nutrients are delivered directly into the blood stream, allowing your body to use them instantaneously.
