Monsoon Watching Package and Storm Chasing Tours Returns

The Hacienda Del Sol Guest Ranch Resort Monsoon Package that delivers guests to the ideal vantage point from which to view Southern Arizona’s most spectacular natural events is back! Watch moisture laden clouds roil. Listen to the cacophony of thunder, wind, and rain. Feel the electricity of lightening cleaving a darkened sky. Smell the desert sand, mesquite, and creosotes as they absorb long-awaited rainfall – all from the comfort, safety and hacienda-style luxury of the Resort’s new Catalina guest rooms and patios.

Hacienda Del Sol weather watchers are on high alert and will post announcements on social media and via email newsletter when storms are brewing in the area. Guests may book a room immediately and spend a spontaneous and luxurious evening of relaxation and storm watching.

Monsoon Package rooms offer expansive views of Tucson’s southeastern skies (the direction from which monsoons most often roll in to the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains.) Guests will enjoy a $20 resort credit, a gorgeous and tasty Monsoon cocktail (or mock-tail), and thumbing through a copy of When the Rains Come…A Naturalist’s Year in the Sonoran Desert by John Alcock. In addition to a spectacular monsoon watching experience, guests may take with them the Alcock book, monsoon facts and safety tips, and the smell of a desert rain (fresh-cut creosote sprig) upon departure. The Monsoon Package is available for stays through September 16, 2017. Storm activity is not guaranteed but all other components of this one-of-a-kind package are the guests’ to keep. Guests interested in a more up-close-and-personal encounter with our ominous summer storms may book a Sonoran Desert Chubasco Chasing or Sonoran Chubasco Geo-Photographic Workshop with Southwest Odyssey Tours, our valued partner. Leave from the resort and ride in style to watch, learn about, and photograph Mother Nature’s most spectacular weather events with knowledgeable and experienced guides. Hacienda Del Sol’s Experience Concierges will assist with scheduling tours upon request. (Tour fees are not included in the Hacienda Del Sol Monsoon Package.)

Chubasco Chasing in the Sonoran Desert – Join a two- to three-hour tour focusing on placing guests on the nearest fringe or right in a monsoon storm to experience the wonder! This is geared to the guests who would like to be “off property” for an up close to nature experience with a relaxed pace and luxury safari-style amenities. $225 pp + tax (two guest minimum)

Sonoran Chubasco Geo-Photographic Workshop – Join a four- to six-hour workshop geared to “advanced beginner to advanced” photographers. Guests must be very familiar w/their personal photo equipment. To hone the individuals existing photography skills and teach useful new ones while immersing participants in the little known and very rare Sonoran desert ecology during the monsoon season. Multiple peak experience moment opportunities for clients means they will come away with more than just great images after a truly rewarding creative, educational and fun experience with or without a bolt. $450 pp + tax (Two guest minimum.) Professional-level camera, lens & photo gear rental is available.
