Looking for a great place to celebrate the end of 2016? Ready to usher in a new beginning to the New Year? Below are some of my favorite places to celebrate New Year's Eve in Phoenix. Be sure to check out more New Year's Eve options on the Wander calendar.
Head up north to The Boulders Resort & Spa on New Year's Eve for a specialty Champagne and Dinner Reception to ring in 2017. In addition to checking out the gorgeous new renovations at the resort, you can enjoy beef Wellington, shellfish, hand-cut sushi, lobster gnocchi, Maryland crab cake and desserts by the resort's award-winning pastry chef while listening to music by Scottsdale Music & Entertainment from 8 to 10 pm. Enjoy a ball drop at 10 pm with a champagne toast and continue celebrating until 11 pm. Cost is $120 per person.
The Boulders Resort & Spa is located at 34631 N. Tom Darlington Drive in Carefree. Call 480.488.7317 to make reservations or visit www.theboulders.com.
I happen to have a certain fascination with F. Scott Fitzgerald and The Great Gatsby so I think it's great fun that CopperWynd Resort & Club in Fountain Hills is hosting a Great Gatsby theme for its New Year's Eve gala, embracing the joys of the flapper era. Live music, dancing and gourmet food stations placed through the property promise a lively evening from 7 pm to 1 am. The resort invites visitors to come dressed in flapper dresses, silk gloves, tuxedos and top hats and be prepared to dance the night away.
Live music by the 4-piece band Fosterson will incorporate songs from the 1920s Gatsby era as well as more contemporary favorites. Multiple food stations will feature a medley of culinary delights in the spirit of what Gatsby would have served his guests, who will be enticed to indulge when they please—jumbo lump crab cakes, lobster chive risotto, shrimp cocktail, Beef Wellington, assorted miniature desserts and more. The price is $125 per person, plus tax and gratuity.
CopperWynd Resort & Club is at 13225 N. Eagle Ridge Drive in Fountain Hills. Call 480.333.1880 to make reservations or visit online at www.copperwhynd.com or www.flourishaz.com/happenings/ to see the full menu for the evening.
There are few patios I love better in the valley than LON's at The Hermosa Inn. The historic hotel is in a quiet residential neighborhood in Paradise Valley and embodies the best of Arizona. And the food is amazing—you can read about my most recent experience at LON's here. What a great way to ring in 2017 with the tastes of Executive Chef Jeremy Pacheco and his culinary team.
There are multiple seatings being offered at LON's on New Year's Eve. For $95, you can opt for a three-course menu at either 5:30 or 6:30 pm and enjoy a choice of either Kauai shrimp, roasted pumpkin bisque or smoked local beets to start (I can't imagine having to choose between the shrimp and bisque, so I'd suggest you both order one of each and share); follow that with a choice of the Wagyu beef duo, sea bass and Tristan lobster or maple leaf duck duo and finish with the Lon's New Year's Trio of chocolate-hazelnut mousse, raspberry white chocolate bomb with champagne caviar and champagne granite shooter.
There are additional seatings between 8 and 10 pm, with a five-course menu offered for $135. In addition to the above options, you will get a choice of bacon & egg (smoked pork belly with poached egg and Noble breach), foie gras duo or pan roasted scallop and a black truffle risotto.
In addition to dinner, live entertainment featuring Al Ortiz will be in LON's Last Drop from 8 pm until midnight. With the fire going on the patio and the twinkling lights overhead, this is sure to be a great spot for ushering in the New Year.
LON's at The Hermosa Inn is at 5532 N. Palo Cristi Road in Paradise Valley. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 602.955.7878. Visit online at www.lons.com.
I think one of the best places to celebrate New Year's Eve is at the Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia with the gorgeous views of Camelback Mountain. There are a couple of great options. Toast the New Year at Prado with a four course prix-fixe menu and champagnes. Enjoy live jazz and dancing from the talented Joe Costello throughout the evening. Stay until midnight for a special balloon drop to ring in the New Year and then order after-drinks at Mbar until 2 am. There are two seating options available throughout New Year's Eve—6 pm for $95 per person or 9 pm for $125 per person which includes champagne. To make reservations, call 480.627.3200 or book online at OpenTable.com.
If you want to elevate the evening with a fireside table reserved exclusively for you and your sweetie, complete with vintage champagne and dedicated service, opt for 9 pm seating at Prado and fireside table service for New Year's Eve. Starting at $2,000 per couple, you can enjoy a masterfully comprised seafood tower complete with the works, including oysters, shrimp, crab, lobster and caviar to start off your evening. Then, begin a personalized four-course menu. Sit and savor the evening fireside in your own private corner decorated with lavish floral arrangements and a plethora of candles to set the mood—all while enjoying the last evening hours before the start of 2017. Live entertainment playing all night and a midnight balloon drops caps off the perfect evening. After dinner drinks are available at Mbar. The experience is available for seating up to 8 people. Afterwards, enjoy luxurious overnight accommodations in a resort view room.
The Omni Montelucia is located at 4949 East Lincoln Drive in Scottsdale. To reserve or inquire about reserving this unique experience, or about creating a larger fireside party, call 480.627.3039 or visit Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia.
Executive Chef David LaForce will be cooking up a specialty Lobster and Steak for New Year's Eve at Roaring Fork beginning at 4 pm. You can sit around the outdoor fireplace and also indulge in signature menu items, such as the Big Ass Burger, the Kettle of Green Chili Pork, Sugar Cured Duck Breast, the Double Cut Pork Chop, Boneless Buttermilk Fried Chicken, and Rainbow Trout.
The American Western Cooking at Roaring Fork is a great way to usher in the New Year in Scottsdale. I love the mix of Southwest and contemporary ambiance here and food cooked over the wood-fired rotisserie is delicious. On New Year's Eve, Chef LaForce will also be offering some seasonal menu items available that evening only. The steak and lobster is available for $59 and a la carte menu items are priced separately.
Roaring Fork is located at 4800 N. Scottsdale Road in Scottsdale. Be sure to call ahead for reservations at 480.947.0795 or visit online at www.roaringfork.com.
I think one of the most romantic resorts in the valley is Royal Palms Resort and Spa and dining at T. Cook's is a real treat any time of the year. It is a lovely spot to ring in the New Year and they are planning a great New Year's Eve dinner.
The first seating is available from 5:30 through 6:45 pm and will feature a three-course, prix-fixe menu for $95 per person. For starters, you can opt for some of my T. Cook's favorites along with a few specials, including the French onion soup, American Kobe beef tartar with shaved white alba truffles and a quail egg or the Maine lobster risotto. For entrees, select from Maine diver sea scallops, Snake River Farms Kobe New York strip with smoked blue cheese, pan roasted turbot or a grilled Colorado lamb rack. Of course, don't forget dessert, with an option of Black Forest chocolate mousse or roasted pear torte.
The second seating, available from 7:30 pm through 10:30 pm will feature a five-course, prix-fixe menu and a glass of sparkling wine to toast the evening for $150 per person. That menu includes a sparkling wine toast for the first course, plus a cheese course before dessert.
After dinner, head to The Mix Up Bar and usher in the New Year with live music by the Carrie Lynn Van Winkle Trio.
Royal Palms Resort and T. Cook's is located at 5200 E. Camelback Road in Phoenix. Reservations are required. Call 602.840.3610 or visit online at www.royalpalmshotel.com.
Another one of my favorite patios in Scottsdale is at Talavera at Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale. Sitting north of Scottsdale near Pinnacle Peak, this is one of the most incredible views of the Valley. There are heaters on the patio so it is beautiful even in the winter. I was just up there for dinner and it was beyond amazing—ideal for welcoming in a New Year.
Arrive early on New Year's Eve to enjoy a pre-dinner reception in Onyx Bar & Lounge where you will be greeted with a glass of Veuve Clicquot Champagne to sip while enjoying an array of great food and live music.
After the reception, head into Talavera for a five-course menu. Enjoy dinner at your own pace, then head back into Onyx for the hosted after party, with Veuve Clicquot décor and late-night sweet and savory snacks. As the clock strikes midnight and 2016 turns into 2017, enjoy a complimentary toast and party favors along with live entertainment.
The evening is $250 per person, which includes the five-course menu in Talavera plus the pre- and post-dinner receptions in Onyx. Dinner reservations are required and are available from 5:30 to 9:30 pm.
Onyx Bar & Lounge will open at 5 pm for the pre-reception with live music and light bits. The New Year's Eve party will run from 5 pm to 1 am and the cost of admission to the party only, which includes the glass of Veuve Clicquot and the pre- and post-receptions, without dinner in Talavera, is $75 per person.

How about a Cristal Celebration Package at The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa? This sounds like a heavenly way to greet the New Year! You can kick off the New Year in celebrity style in a celebration package featuring the famous Louis Roederer Champagne of the tsars and the stars.

At deseo, you can enjoy a four-course prix fixe menu that includes a variety of choices ranging frm ceviches to Hudson Valley foie gras for starters, then move on to Wagyu beef or seared black cod and desserts of dulce de leche flan or warm chocolate lava cake. I love the hip vibe at Hotel Valley Ho in downtown Scottsdale and the food at ZuZu there is some of my favorite. You can celebrate New Year's Eve with a three-course dinner at ZuZu. There are two seatings available for the evening—at 5:30 pm for $75 per person or at 8 pm for $95 per person. Don't forget to order a bottle of Veuve Clicquot for $85.
The evening's menu includes a starter, entrée and dessert from a special menu that includes options such as Lobster Bisque with crème fraiche and brioche croutons (one of my personal favorites), Herb Roasted Wagyu Beef Striploin with roasted fingerling potatoes and Huckleberry Crème Brulee.
After dinner, you can enjoy craft cocktails in the lounge where DJ JonnY Rogers will be spinning tunes from 9 pm to 1 am. Those joining ZuZu for either dinner seating are invited to a complimentary rooftop Champagne toast at midnight.
