For those who dream of riding a horse through Colorado’s grassy plains, rounding up cattle and bringing them down from the high country,  The Home Ranch’s  “Cattle Roundup Week”   might just fulfill this urge.
Taking place from September 18-23, during the peak of Colorado’s fall colors, this five-night, six-day escape offers a true taste of ranching life, albeit with some gourmet touches fitting a Relais & Chateaux affiliated property, and a chance to learn more about riding, stockmanship and the “cowboy or cowgirl” way of life.
Under the guidance of Sand Mountain Cattle Ranch owner Doug Carlson, who has been a Colorado rancher for more than 30 years, and The Home Ranch’s Operations Manager and Wrangler Michael Moon, adult guests begin their week with riding sessions with their assigned horse along with sessions on cattle behavior.  Guests then travel to the high country and begin moving two hundred cattle down the mountain before the snow falls.  Finding the cattle, who hide in Aspen groves and deep gorges, among the vast landscape, adds to the adventure.
After an invigorating day in the saddle, guests’ relish Executive Chef Jonathon Gillespie’s gourmet four-course dinners  or elaborate BBQ’s held at The Home Ranch’s Farm.
Outdoor hot tubs are also available with each cabin and the main lodge so guests can enjoy a soothing soak. Other activities available to guests throughout the week include guided hikes, fly fishing excursions and mountain biking treks.
Prices at the all-inclusive luxury guest ranch start at $4975 per room (based on two guests, with accommodations also available for up to six) for the five-night stay offered September 18-23. Roundtrip ground transportation from Yampa Valley Regional Airport (HDN) is included in the pricing.
