Hosted by Thunderbird Artists, this juried art show hosts more than 125 nationally-acclaimed, award-winning artists from throughout the country and abroad. The event will integrate fine art and fine crafts with a vast selection of imported and domestic wines, tasty food, flavorful sweets and live musical entertainment.

Featured Artist Manfred Rapp

Rapp has been interested in art since he can remember. Born in Germany to a mother who was a painter, he would sit and draw for hours at the age of only four. With his first crayon kit, he created a life-size pirate for his bedroom wall.
By the age of 16, Rapp was serving an apprenticeship as a graphic artist at a West German firm. Upon completion of his internship he began graphic design and illustration work for books, televised children’s programs and posters for performing artists. At age 23, Rapp began to study under the close guidance of renowned Czechoslovakian artist Karl Hodr and received a Master of Fine Art from the Art Academy of Kostanz.

Rapp has created a signature style by combining impressionism with the glazing techniques of the old masters. He uses perspective in a way that makes people feel as if they can walk right into the scenes he paints.
“The everyday street scene has always held a fascination for me,” says Rapp. “It is challenging to make something we see as ordinary look interesting and translate it into a painting.”
As Rapp travels, he makes quick sketches of scenes that intrigue him and takes a photograph to help him remember the scene. When he returns to his home studio to begin painting, he works hard to keep the spontaneity and looseness of his lines and brush strokes that give his paintings life.
Rapp, who is known for his European oils, has spent the last year painting scenes from a three month solo tour through Cuba that will be available for purchase at the Fountain Hills Fine Art & Wine Affaire.
“I find beauty exists in many corners of the world,” says Rapp. “It is a matter of seeking out and observing.”
