One of the most wonderful things I’ve found recently — and I didn’t have to travel far to get it — is the new Citron line of bath and body care products by Crabtree & Evelyn.
These delicious items have extracts of honey and coriander, and they really do smell almost good enough to devour. When I was in the South of France a few years back, I visited a beautiful estate in Grasse for cocktails and dinner. This five-star property, La Bastide Saint Antoine, had gorgeous gardens filled with citrus, olive trees, and flowers. When I opened the top on the body soufflé, I immediately thought of that day on the Côte d’Azur. It was just that clean and fresh.
Once the products passed my smell test, it was time to try them. They are supposed to be gentle, free of parabens, sulfates, propylene glycol, mineral oil, and a few other things I couldn’t pronounce and didn’t want on my skin. So far so good.
I immediately tried the body lotion. Living in Arizona, my hands are always dry. The lotion is great. It’s not oily and I kept breathing in that lovely aroma. The lotion is made of pumpkin, peach, and apricot, along with fig and sugar extracts. It just takes a little bit, so I think it’s worth the $18 sticker price.
Next, I tried the Bath and Shower Gel. It’s ideal in the shower because it doesn’t dry my skin out. It contains lemons, oranges, apples, and sugar, mixed with glycerine, aloe vera, honey, and tea extracts. This one also sells for $18.
I love the Body Soufflé. It’s like a really rich, decadent cream. My skin soaked it up. It’s made with shea butter, pumpkin seed oil, apricot, peach, and glycolic and alpha hydroxy acids derived from lemons, oranges, and sugars. This cream is light and I really want to cover myself with it. I slather it on at night and it’s so nice to go to bed with that smell of citrus and fresh herbs filling the air. It sells for $28 and I’m afraid I may use it up way too fast.
The line also includes a body scrub made of botanical oils including sunflower, soy, and jojoba for $18 and an oh-so-lovely body bar, which is a blend of rosemary, thyme, tea tree, golden seal, willow bark, eucalyptus, coriander, shea butter, and evening primrose oil for $10.
I think my very favorite thing in the line, however, is the tube of ultra-moisturising lip butter. The formula includes shea, cocoa, illipe, and kokum butters along with mango oil, beeswax, and botanical ingredients. It is soft and creamy, smells good, and even works over my lipstick. It actually comes in two other flavors in addition to the Citron. I carry my lip butter with me everywhere. For $7.50, I’ll be getting one for the car, one for my desk, one for my bedside…
I want to thank Crabtree & Evelyn for sending me samples of the products to smell and use. My review was completely unbiased and I fell in love with all of them. I’ll definitely be buying more for myself.
