Mystic, Connecticut: Now’s the Time to Plan for a Uniquely Haunted Halloween

Want a perfect way to spend this Halloween? Take a trip to Mystic, Connecticut where you’ll find some fabulous haunts.

Start with Nautical Nightmares 2008: The Cursed Figurehead at Mystic Seaport. You’ll find a chilling experience awaiting you as you wander through streets of yesteryear led only by lanterns. You’ll encounter ghosts and spirits as you try to solve the mystery of the figurehead’s curse. The event is October 17-19, 23-26, 31 and November 1st. Tours start at 6 pm (7 pm on October 1st). Tickets are $19 for adults and $17 for youths 4-18 years. Tickets go on sale September 22nd. Find out more online at or call 860-572-5331.

When you’ve solved one mystery, it’s time for another at Sea Scare at Mystic Aquarium Institute for Exploration. This annual event is usually held the weekend before Halloween. The two-day event has many ghostly offerings as costumed visitors of all ages wind through dimly lit paths snaking through the aquarium. Last year’s event featured a variety of skits performed by the staff and aquatic residents of the aquarium. There were also over 1000 carved pumpkins, game stations for the kids, a haunted storyteller, a “scary zone” for older kids and plenty of activities in the classrooms. The event normally runs 6:30 to 10 pm both nights. Visit or call 860-572-5955 for information.

Need a place to stay for your haunted getaway? Check out the Inn at Mystic. This 1904 mansion, where Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall honeymooned, is sure to have a few ghosts of its own. Be sure to check out the fabulous restaurant with its fresh seafood and save time in your ghostly adventures to enjoy the sunsets from the vantage point overlooking Mystic Harbor and Long Island Sound. Visit or call 800-237-2415.
