Surprising Getaway: Mountain Harbor Resort & Spa on Lake Ouachita, Mount Ida, Arkansas

When I told people I was going to Arkansas, they looked at me a little strange. I’m a travel writer. There’s a world out there. Why would I choose Arkansas? My first stop in that beautiful state showed me exactly why I’d visit Arkansas.

I spent several days at Mountain Harbor Resort & Spa. It’s right on the shore of Lake Ouachita. They have a variety of rooms, but I was fortunate enough to stay in one of the “cabins”. These cabins are three-room homes, decorated tastefully and with full kitchens, massive decks and hot tubs–all with a breathtaking view of the lake.

The resort is ideal for families because there’s something for everyone. You can even bring your pets.

Turtle Cove Spa is a lovely gem, tucked away in the woods, offering a selection of fabulous treatments.

The restaurant dishes up some great food and usually features a fresh catch of the day.

If you prefer playing on the water, you can rent a houseboat, go fishing, go sailing, rent a pontoon boat, or check out some water toys. Have your own boat? They even have slips available for rentals.

If the water’s not your thing, there are plenty of other choices. You can hike. You can go horseback riding. You can rent a bike.

Whatever your pleasure, you’ll be able to escape at Mountain Harbor Resort & Spa on Lake Ouachita. Check them out online at www.mountainharborresort.com or call them at 1-800-832-2276. It’s definitely easy to get away from it all there.

I have to tell you that I’m sad you are letting this particular cat out of the bag. Lake Ouachita is so gorgeous! I’m from north Louisiana and can tell you that we want to keep our Arkansas treasures hidden! :) Great entry! You made me feel as if I were there.
